Ex-Wife Tatum O’Neal Disclosed John McEnroe’s ‘You Cannot Be Serious’ Tantrums at Home: ‘Everything Was Like That..’

The loud-mouthed ‘bad boy’ of tennis, John McEnroe sometimes lacked the decorum of the gentleman’s game. Fans often witnessed the New Yorker arguing calls, shouting, abusing umpires and linesmen, complaining, slamming rackets, and more. John McEnroe also had a stormy relationship with his ex-wife, the child superstar Tatum O’Neal.

During an interview with The Guardian, Tatum O Neal opened up about her feelings towards her ‘controlling ex’, John McEnroe. O’Neal divorced from the legendary tennis ace in 1992, following years of turmoil. Fans were disappointed to witness the duo’s escalating fights and the ugly custody battle over their three kids.

John McEnroe had a violent temper even at home

Fans were always entertained by McEnroe’s competitiveness and wild behavior on the court. But off the court, his ex-wife was highly disappointed. In the interview, she said, “Everything was like that if you didn’t agree with him. It was, ‘Really? You’re not going to agree with me? How can you not agree with me?'”. 

McEnroe is father to three children with the Hollywood star. The tennis star was accused by Tatum O’ Neal of bringing his outburst and frustrations from the tennis court to their house. The couple divorced in 1994, and four years later, McEnroe was granted sole custody of their three children, owing to O’Neal’s drug problems at the time.
