Jayden Daniels over Caleb Williams for Rookie of the Year? Is this a genius pick or a huge gamble?

As the NFL season knocks on the door, teams have already drafted a few young talents in 2024. And, it seems like one of them is Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders, the winner of the 2023 Heisman Trophy Award. Since then, the QB has been constantly proving himself in Washington’s training camp with his electrifying speed and throws. And, it looks like Ex-NFL star, Bart Scott is already impressed with the rookie QB.

I like Jayden Daniels [for Offensive Rookie of the Year]” was the post shared with a smiling face of Daniels, by espnnfl on their IG profile, as it came directly from Bart Scott‘s views on the rookie. Do you remember the crushing 52-35 victory of LSU on Florida in 2023? It was the game in which Daniels accounted for 606 total yards with 5 TDs to become the first QB in the FBS history to have 350 passing yards and 200 rushing yards in a single game. And now the ex-NFL star feels that Jayden is better than Caleb and Bo. But why? Well, it seems like Daniels has something more in his bag than Caleb and Bo.

Apart from praising Jayden Daniel’s recent performances, Scott said that the rookie QB is expected to have a season similar to RG3, with an on-field impact similar to Lamar Jackson, “I think he is gonna have an RG3 type of season, Lamar Jackson type of effect,”. Well, Robert Griffin III boasted of a record-breaking 815 rushing yards in his rookie season of 2012. Moreover, in the final game of the 2020 season against the Cincinnati Bengals, Lamar surpassed 1,000 yards rushing for the second year in a row. This made Jackson the first QB to reach that mark more than once. Furthermore, Jayden was also ranked the top dualthreat quarterback prospect of his class by 247Sports.

In addition, Bart seemed to be sure of what a DT is capable of as he said, “He can push for thousand yards rushing, and he has weapons in the outside as well,”. Well, the DT QB already has a record of 1134 rushing yards from the 2023 season. Moreover, Daniels scored an electrifying TD on 6th November 2022 as he swiftly carried the ball to the outside, by making cuts through the Alabama defense which shifted the momentum back to LSU.

Jayden Daniels’ impressive performance in the 2024 pre-season

It was really cool play; I think it probably illustrates for him the awareness in the checks and the things that go into it,” per Quinn on Daniels’ preseason performance against the Jets. The team saw Daniels fake a handoff to Ekeler, took off to his right on a keeper, and finally scampered untouched 3 yards straight into the end zone, giving a 7-0 lead to the Commanders in the opening quarter.

Although 10th August wasn’t in favor of the Commanders, Jayden’s 11 plays in the 20-17 loss to the Jets were enough to impress his coach and his team. Later, the rookie QB finished the day with a 2 of 3 for 45 yards and a rushing TD against the Jets. Moreover, he was more than happy with his first TD, “It was awesome,” per Daniels. Moreover, former NFL QB Joe Theismann was also happy with Jayden’s pre-season performance as he said, “I had a chance to see what Jayden did, and it’s incredible that we get all the hype, knew he had to be the pick,“.
