The 48-year-old who is acclaimed for consistency on the course finished the first two rounds 2-under par and T-10. Even though round 2 is still underway, Westwood has done enough to secure his place in the weekend. In fact, he ended the round consecutive birdies on the 17th and 18th holes.

The former world number 1 had a quiet and smooth 1st round. Apart from a wonderful eagle on the 17th, he hit just one bogey amidst all other pars. Round 2, however, was more eventful. He had a total of five birdies and three bogeys and finished 2-under at the end of the round.

What are the chances for Lee Westwood in the next rounds?

Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat is currently leading, with a fantastic 12-under after 2 rounds. Others in contention on the leaderboard are Laurie Canter and Adam Scott. If all remains favorable, and he continues to play at the same consistent pace, he can hope to end the championship at a respectable 8 or 9-under par.

The current stats are not totally in his favor. However, the 25-time winner on the European tour can certainly shock the field and outdo himself by breaking into the top positions.
