The final round of the 2021 Open Championship is currently underway at the Royal St. George’s Sandwich, Kent, in England. And Right now, around 4-5 players are in contention to lift the trophy. But Jon Rahm is slightly behind and would need a miracle to get his hands on the trophy.
Currently, Morikawa, Oosthuizen, and Jordan Spieth are in contention. But the leaderboard can change within a blink of an eye. However, Jon Rahm is 5-strokes behind the lead and has had a decent start to his front nine.

Jon Rahm misses an albatross

Jon Rahm had a poor start to his last round as he made a bogey on the second hole. And after that, he continued with pars till the 7th hole. But on the 7th tee, Rahm stood with a driver in his hand and smashed a 335-yard drive right in the middle of the fairway and then flushed a long iron straight towards the pin location. But the ball bounced slightly to the right of the flag and rolled down a bit to miss an albatross.

However, Jon Rahm went on to make an eagle and got up to 8-under. The 561 yards par-5, 7th hole is one of the easiest holes on the course, and every player is taking full advantage of it.
But unfortunately, he dropped a shot on the very next hole and gave away the momentum he had gained with that eagle. Rahm has been struggling throughout the tournament and has never really looked in control of his game. Even though he had a bogey-free round on Day 2, Rahm has struggled for consistency.

Moreover, if Jon Rahm wants to regain the world no. 1 ranking, he needs to finish his round ahead of the current world no.1 Dustin Johnson. DJ has completed his round with a score of -7 and is currently T6. So Rahm has to score at least one birdie and not drop any more shots in the back nine to regain the top spot in OWGR.
