Renowned WWE Wrestler Officially Announces Her Appearance in Street Fighter 6

Capcom’s Street Fighter series is undoubtedly one of the most influential fighting game series in the history of gaming. Alongside Tekken and Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter shaped the modern fighting game formula. This influence and worldwide popularity have made SF able to feature many familiar faces from mainstream media.

Following this tradition, the upcoming highly anticipated installment in mainline SF games, Street Fighter 6, will be featuring a renowned WWE wrestler as a guest commentator. Previously, the series had featured accomplished pro-SF players and celebrity fans in this role in the game.

Zelina Joins Street Fighter 6

In the recently wrapped WWE Royal Rumble event, fans were left shocked when Thea Trinidad aka Zelina appeared in her fight dressed as Juri from the upcoming SF 6 game. Not only did she cosplay a fighting game character, but she also had an SF-style starting screen stare-down against her opponent, Xia Li outside the ring.

Zelina confirmed the news on Twitter with a heartfelt tweet saying, “What an honor. I had happy tears tonight.” She announced that she will be appearing as a commentator in the upcoming Street Fighter 6. Releasing June 2023. According to her, it was a dream come true for her.

Commenting about this massive collaboration, Zelina said, “I’ve been an avid gamer since I was a child and a huge fan of Street Fighter”. She recounted how during her younger days she used to play the game with her brother and defeat him using her favorite character, Vega. Who allegedly inspired her stage name, Zelina Vega.

Other wrestlers in SF

Before Zelina, the SF franchise had featured a replica match between Hogan vs Andre in WrestleMania III using the in-game characters of Alex and Andore. There also has been a Lucha fighting style-inspired wrestler character in SF IV. There have been many other crossovers between SF and AEW.

The upcoming Street Fighter game is expected to be released somewhere around June 2023. So far, the full character list has been revealed. Many old faces will be making their return alongside many new characters. It has been confirmed that the game will feature eight original ‘World Warriors’ from Street Fighter 2.
