Venus Williams is not an unknown name in the tennis community. After all, she is one of the best female players in the sport’s history, winning seven Grand Slam titles. Further, she’s also the elder sister of the tennis superstar Serena Williams, with who she dominated the major doubles title 14 times.

It is hard to imagine that a seven-time Grand Slam winner like Venus Williams would like video games. Undoubtedly, fans would think she would have dedicated most of her life to honing her tennis skills. However, she also had interests outside of the court, and possibly it was gaming.

The President of Nintendo of America, Dough Bowser, recently shared a picture with the tennis icon. However, he also added a caption that caught everyone’s attention. The caption read, “Venuses Williams is a Metroid fan?!” It seems Bowser (not Mario’s arch-enemy) revealed Venus being a fan of a Nintendo classic video game. However, she also said about being a Metroid fangirl a decade ago.
Metroid is an action-adventure game franchise by Nintendo. The game’s first installment came out in 1986 and was a colossal hit among the fans. Further, the game’s popularity led to many installments. Even 36 years later, this action-adventure franchise has a massive fanbase. So, Nintendo is working on a new Metroid game for the latest Switch console.
What were fans’ reactions to Serena Williams’ sister being a Metroid fan?
Nintendo recently hosted a Direct event, revealing many upcoming games. But the new Metroid game wasn’t part of the event. After learning about Williams’s love for Metroid, fans now want them to make the huge announcement. Let’s look at some of the tweets from fans.
