The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a complex game. Most of the time, it would let players figure things out on their own by dropping them into large, open areas. The game starts with a devastating event that changes Hyrule forever. It even leaves Link in a worse state than he ever was. The worst part is that Zelda simply vanishes in thin air during this thing. And when Link wakes up, he finds himself on a very weird island in the sky.

This area is called Great Sky Island, and it’s so huge that if someone does not know where to go, they will find themselves roaming around in circles, forever! Hence, this guide would help you clear the starting area of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Once Link wakes up following the destruction of Hyrule Castle, he is met with his new arm and a voice. This voice tells him that Link was saved thanks to that arm, and that arm belonged to that voice. Link is also told that Zelda is waiting for him in a huge temple called the Temple of Time.

The Path to the Temple of Time

Link starts his journey towards that temple without much; he only has a bunch of basic weapons. As he defeats more and more enemies, he meets some constructs who teach him stuff.

One of them teaches him to cook; another teaches him how to use Zonai charges and devices; and some just give him some exposition. Upon reaching the temple, the spirit tells Link that he cannot enter the temple because he has lost all his strength. To gain strength, he needs to visit some Shrines.

Shrines can easily be recognized by the green spiral aura surrounding them. Each of these Shrines would give Link an energy orb that can later be used to increase Link’s health or stamina and the main abilities such as Ultrahand, Fuse, and Ascend.

Ukouh Shrine – Ultrahand

This is the first Shrine to Vising that gives you the Ultrahand ability. The moment you enter this Shrine, this ability is given, and you can use a nearby slab to make a bridge for yourself.

At one point, you would reach a rail; you just need to attach one of the hooks to a plank and roll. This makeshift cable car would take you to the end of this Shrine. This will help you move on to the next Shrine.

In-Isa Shrine – Fuse

Upon entering this Shrine, you would get the Fuse ability. The first thing you would have to do is attach a nearby rock to their weapon and use that new weapon to break the stone wall in front of them. Continue using this weapon until they reach a point where they see a chest stuck in a bunch of vines.

You just have to grab a fire fruit from one of the plants, fuse it to an arrow, and fire it at those vines. The chest would fall, and you would get a key. Then, you can use that key to open the next door and complete this Shrine after defeating an overconfident construct. It stands amidst a bunch of flammable vines, just burn them, and it dies.

Gutanbac Shrine – Ascend

Once again, you get this ability the instant you enter this Shrine. This ability allows you to get to the top of structures with roofs. You should just use this ability on a tall platform. It would help instantly reach the top of that platform.

Then you would see a standing platform tied up with ropes; if those ropes were cut, you would get a platform to ascend onto. Next, you have to ascend through some moving platforms. At the top is the end, where you can get their prize and exit the Shrine.

Now you would be worthy of entering the Temple of Time. After making your way through some small puzzles in this temple, you would find yourself in front of yet another door.

This door would require Link to have at least four hearts to open it. To get a fourth hearing, Link would need one more energy orb, and for that, you would be asked to visit the fourth and last Shrine on this Sky Island.

Nachoyah Shrine

This final Shrine can be found in a large cave where the Room of Awakening is. You can simply fast-travel there. You would see some rotating wheels; use Ascend and Recall to reach the top. There is a walkway hidden in the corner, and hidden inside this walkway is the final Shrine of this island.

This would be the first real Shrine where you would be required to complete some real puzzles. First, use recall to make the oncoming raft go back to its original position. This one would be followed by yet another raft-based puzzle where rafts would fall from a high point. Just climb on one and use recall.

Finally, you would see two dials revolving in opposite directions. You just have to use recall to make them overlap each other. This would open the final door. Now get the final energy orb, exit the Shrine, use one of the gliders, and fly back to the Temple of Time.

Go to the statue of the goddess just in front of the final door of that temple, offer it four orbs, and get an extra heart. This would allow players to open that final door and see for themselves where Zelda vanished. This would also conclude the opening area of this game and bring you back to the surface of Hyrule.
