In an interview with RTL Nieuws, Zelda director Hidemaro Fujibayashi and producer Eiji Aonuma shed light on their team’s unwavering commitment to originality and their deliberate avoidance of copying ideas from other games or companies. Despite being aware of successful titles in the gaming industry, the Zelda development team remains focused on charting their own course.

Fujibayashi admits that due to the demanding nature of developing Tears of the Kingdom, he and the team didn’t have much time to play other games. He emphasizes that even if they had the opportunity to play games, the team would refrain from reusing ideas from others. 

Their game development process begins with a general concept, allowing them to generate fresh and innovative ideas based on that foundation. This approach ensures that the Zelda franchise remains a unique and interesting experience.
