The battle between gaming giants, PlayStation, and Xbox is no longer just limited to console wars. In the wake of Xbox Game Pass domination, the industry has realized the immense potential of live-subscription services and what they can offer. It bridges the gap between gamers and developers, allowing gaming titles to reach their targeted audience in a similar fashion as Netflix.

With the explosive growth of Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online, PlayStation has come up with its own service in Spartacus to challenge them. Right now, Game Pass is sitting at a mammoth 25 million members and it is only going to grow even more. Sony’s response saw the studio churn out a similar service, but it lacked in a number of areas.

Can Sony’s PlayStation somehow eclipse Xbox Game Pass?

First up, the revelation of the three-tier system with the new service has not sat well with the community. PS users already have a subscription to Plus, which roughly pushes the pricing to $60 per month.

However, the other tiers push this envelope even more with the premium plan demanding users to shell out  $18 per month, which roughly translates to $120 annually. This price point would have made sense for the users if exclusive titles like God of War: Ragnarok. Spiderman 2, Wolverine, and other important first-party releases were also offered.

This will somehow work against PlayStation as Xbox Game Pass is offering a whole lot without ever attacking the user’s pocket. Game Pass allows players to gain access to first-day releases, while routine offers and frequent sales on subscriptions help it grab even more audience.

Additionally, Xbox likes to add more and more value to its services, as the American giant has secured a tie-up with Ubisoft and EA Play. The recent merger of Activision\Blizzard has also made it even more lucrative. Safe to say, PlayStation will have to come up with something innovative to stand a chance against Xbox’s juggernaut.
