One of the most renowned and respected League of Legends eSports pros, Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, announces his official departure from the professional scene. This is Bjerg’s second retirement. Back in 2020, he threw the towel as a pro player and transited to the role of the coach of TSM.
But then he came out of retirement and joined Team Liquid as a pro player for the LCS tournament in 2022. Then, for LCS Spring 2023, Søren joined the 100 thieves as their Mid-Laner, reuniting with his TSM teammate, Yiliang “Peter” “Doublelift” Peng.

On April 8th, 2023, Bjergsen shared a 9-minute-long video on his official Twitter. In that video, the veteran made it official that his long career in the Esports scene is officially over. In his descriptive video, he didn’t specify any particular reason for his departure, nor did he blame 100 thieves for ‘retirement’.
“This year playing with 100 Thieves is my 11th year of playing competitively, which is a very long time to be doing the same thing or working towards the same goal, being in the same industry. I’ve been playing League of Legends for probably half my life at this point. It just doesn’t feel as fulfilling as it did when I was younger,” said the League of Legends pro, Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg.

In a field that is as competitive and demanding as the Esports circuit, it is not impossible that Bjergsen might have felt ‘burnt out’. In the video, he made clear that he won’t be taking coaching or playing opportunities any time soon, as he wants to spend some time with his family and friends. However, he hasn’t completely blown off the possibility of returning to the scene in the future.
Fans pay their tribute to the legend
Soon, the comment section of the video was filled with fans and well-wishers. The community came forward to give respect to the veteran. 100 Thieves co-owner Valkyrae said, “legend forever!!” while Bjerg’s former group TSM commented, “A legend in and out of the game. Good luck with whatever path you choose next”.
Others also joined in to give their tributes.
