Xbox Series X/S has successfully dominated its predecessor, Xbox One, in terms of sales in Japan. On 12th Nov 2021, the Xbox Series X/S surpassed the sales figures of Xbox One in Japan. It’s an enormous achievement for Xbox, and it indicates the people of Japan are enjoying these next-gen consoles.

And let’s not forget the Xbox Series X/S managed to achieve this target in just one year of its release; if PlayStation wants to get a better grip on the Japanese market, they need to up their game.

To achieve these same figures, Xbox One took almost seven years. This means Xbox One had a tragic release back in the month of November 2013. But the company learned a lot from it and released Series X/S, which did what the Xbox One couldn’t.

  • Xbox One – 110,000 units sold
  • Xbox Series X – 67,366 units sold
  • Xbox Series S – 48,756 units sold

Xbox Series X and S: future in Japan

These numbers look very encouraging and it’s most likely to increase in the coming years. It’s a very positive sign that Series X/S is gaining momentum. Finally, the people of Japan are ready to explore something different from PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

The reason behind this growth might be the change in strategy by Xbox. Back in 2013, Xbox One focused more on “Kinetic” instead of the games and exclusive titles. And now they’re more focused on delivering better content to Xbox users.

In fact, in the past few years, it has enhanced its Xbox Game Pass library, which is already the best gaming service in the world, some claim. Also, Xbox has partnered with a lot of Japanese studios and devs to understand their gaming culture. And their efforts so far seem to have been worth the while. As of now, the future of Xbox in Japan looks bright, and they will continue to bring new content on the Xbox Game Pass.
