Microsoft is striving to build a better community. Despite their best efforts, fans often cross boundaries resulting in unpleasant memories for others. Now, Xbox has announced that it will come down hard on toxic behavior in order to make the community a safe space for all members. Xbox has recently announced a new strike-based enforcement program that will try to bring down toxic behavior across its communities from every platform.

Fans believe this system will bring transparency into how Microsoft maintains community standards. The strike-based enforcement system will also assist players in keeping track of any enforcement action that had been made on their accounts.

Xbox has only recently made the new program public. It’s also reported that the strike-based enforcement structure is aimed to “curtail bad behavior.” Xbox explained that each display of poor behavior will result in one strike against a player. Getting 8 strikes in total will result in a ban from all Xbox platforms for a year. However, it’s good to note that each strike will last for six months before becoming irrelevant.

Xbox Player Sevices VP Dave McCarthy also thinks the new system will be good for player transparency. McCarthy says Xbox previously didn’t have any way to tell members where they stand in the community. But the strike-based enforcement system will make things clear to everyone. While players are to receive strikes for every bad behavior, the severity and magnitude of the action will determine how many strikes the player is likely to get. Xbox has announced that the new system will be implemented from today and every player will begin with a clean slate.

Xbox wants a crackdown on toxicity

While the video gaming community is fairly inclusive and cooperative, there are many members who enjoy taking shots at others. Toxic behavior has become common within the community, much like any other group or community in the world. For a long time, Xbox authorities have tried thinking of ways to control such behavior and the new system is the best way to do so.

As per newly disclosed documents by Xbox, we can see that cursing lands you with one strike, while hate speech will get you three. However, Xbox will not be releasing any list of infractions for a player in case such behavior is displayed by a member. However, things will clear up why certain players got a ban of a month while others were only suspended for a week from voice-over or multiplayer services.
