Reddit user makes an incredible remedy to fix battery issues in an Xbox controller

One user u/Extension_Bunch_8334 posted on the Xbox subreddit describing how they ran out of batteries for their controller and only had AAAs with them. In order to make it work with what was in hand, they found a fix using aluminium foil and cardboard. This user, however, clarified this might be a risky approach.

This method worked out easily because aluminium is a good conductor of electricity and it is indeed an ingenious fix for situations such as this. The community responded to this amazing trick in the comments of the post.

One user suggested a method where it would have been better to put the aluminium foil on the other side of the controller. The opposite side has the connection terminals that go to the rest of the remote, while the other side connects the two batteries into a series. This way, there might be no short circuits that could occur.

One user suggested the user to take out the batteries from their smoke detectors (hopefully as a joke).

This person suggested that the user could better get a rechargeable battery pack or just rechargeable batteries in order to stop wasting money on disposable batteries.

This user thinks that this is indeed a nice trick and described how they use tiny pieces of tinfoil to make a better connection for their mom’s battery powered candles. The springs and positive end connections get rusty, and the tinfoils always seem to make those connections work again.

The OP replied to all the comments which criticized them for not having a micro-USB cable or a rechargeable battery, saying, “like if I had that right now I would be doing this. But yeah it’s a pretty cool thing that it actually works.”
