The community has its focus set on this year’s BlizzCon. This will be the first major event held by the Call of Duty devs since the studio was acquired by Microsoft. At the event, Phil Spencer, the Xbox Boss made an unexpected visit and talked about the future of the now-joined brands. BlizzCon has several news planned to be revealed to the fans, but understandably, Spencer’s arrival created quite a buzz among the attendees.
Xbox will now have several popular Blizzard titles under its direct control. So it’s not unnatural for fans of popular titles to be curious about what’s coming their way. Spncer’s appearance during the opening ceremony of the event had folks on their toes. And when he mentioned a legendary title, the fans couldn’t hold back their excitement at what it may hint at.

During the opening event, Spencer talked about how Blizzard is a true game changer in the industry and how fortunate Microsoft feels to be part of that journey. The Xbox Chief said Blizzard carved new paths with games like Diablo and how the franchise has contributed to the action RPG genre. Right after that, Spencer took the crowd by surprise and mentioned StarCraft.

– The next three World of Warcraft expansions, starting with The War Within next year

StarCraft is a real-time strategy-based video game series that was first released in 1998. Since then, the franchise has had multiple title releases, with almost all of those being incredibly well-received by fans. Spencer said the likes of StarCraft helped to create eSports what it is today. StarCraft 2, Spencer said, “was a major catalyst for the evolution of games as live entertainment.”

During the opening ceremony, Spencer also talked about other pioneering Blizzard titles like World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Diablo. Spencer highlighted how these franchises reimagined games in their specific genres and helped thousands of other devs follow their blueprints. However, the Xbox CEO didn’t elaborate on plans involving StarCraft just yet, but fans won’t mind speculating about its possibilities.
Spencer finally can relax
Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard has been an ordeal. Defending the idea in Federal court must have been exhausting and now that it’s finally done and dusted, the Xbox head can take time to relax. He’s been heard talking about how he’s spending more time playing games and visiting Nintendo events, trying his hands on Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

With the acquisition waiting to be finalized, Spencer can finally breathe a sigh of relief and fans can’t wait for Blizzard’s new future to unfold with some help from Xbox!
