In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Phil Spencer shared his views on the closure of the Xbox 360 store. With the closure of the store, multiple games made exclusively for that console will also come to a halt. However, Spencer believes preserving those titles is an important task for his team.
Stating his game plan for preservation he said, “One of the things we do is ship all of our games on PC because I actually think PC is the best ecosystem for game preservation because it’s not tied to one piece of hardware”. Spencer believes the more platform-independent the title is, the more its chances of survival.
However, Spencer believed the closure of the store was a necessity of the times. According to him, the lifespan of Xbox 360 hardware is at its end as only a handful of players are actively playing. Furthermore, the community is dwindling day by day, leading them to decide the closure of the store.
How is Phil Spencer going to preserve the titles?
Phil Spencer continued his game plan for preservation, stating, “There’s a list of 220 games that are not backward compatible, and I have that list and I’ve got it stapled on my forehead.”
His team is actively looking for ways to preserve these games but has not found a sustainable solution yet. However, Spencer has pledged the moment they find a more suitable solution, they will take it in a heartbeat.
