Sony recently released a new update for their PlayStation 5 console. This update brought with it a bunch of new features, primarily Discord support, cloud streaming, and remote play of PS5 games. This remote play support means gamers can now stream their PlayStation 5 library on their preferred devices, anywhere. However, there are still comparisons made between PS5 and Nintendo: with its latest updates, can it beat the differentiating factor?
Fans were glad to get this update and the features that came with it. Some are even wondering if this remote-play option now gives PlayStation a head start against Nintendo Switch on the go.

Years ago, Nintendo launched a console called the Nintendo Wii U, which gave players a second screen to play their games on. If they do not have access to a TV screen, they can simply go ahead and play those games on their gamepad. Sony’s PS Vita offered a similar feature: the ability to stream supported Ps4 games over the internet.
Both those things were pretty much hit-and-miss, Nintendo took that one step further with Switch. Providing players with a portable home console to carry with them wherever they want. It had plenty of big games, and it was not a cloud-based device, so there was no input lag and no connectivity issues. Following this update, fans believe that now with its streaming feature, PlayStation 5 can compete with Nintendo Switch in portable gaming.

It can come close, but because it’s a cloud-based thing, it would always remain one or even two steps behind. As a gamer, your satisfaction will always depend on how good of an internet service you have access to. That has always been a catch with cloud-based things: internet service can make or break your experience.
That is why the Nintendo Switch remains undefeated in portable gaming. Even though visually and in scope, most games surpass most Nintendo Switch titles with flying colors. But that does not matter much when a gamer does not even have access to the internet to play those PS games.

Of course, Internet infrastructure is getting better by the day. 5G technology is here, and as it becomes more widespread, maybe this remote play will become more viable than most realize, but there’s still time, and Nintendo is already planning a new console for next year.

So maybe they would be able to match the visual fidelity of PS games with that new console? Though, it’s still a long time before that happens.
