The story of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set 10 months after the events of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Peter Parker is still coping with the loss of his beloved Aunt May, who dies at the end of the first game because of Devil’s Breath. Further, Peter is now trying to move on from the loss as he has to manage the payments of his aunt’s last possession, the house. Thus, Peter is struggling between jobs as a waiter to account for his financial instability. And with the very small amount of time left from the schedule, he looks to spend some time with his girlfriend, Mary Jane.

In parallel, Miles Morales is facing his own challenges of being Brooklyn’s savior. Miles hasn’t been able to adapt quite well to the changes happening in his personal life due to his shift in priorities. The downsides of being ‘Spider-Man’! While both might not have planned a meet-up initially, a familiar appearance in town brings both the web-slinger’s paths together. Meanwhile, his best friend Ganke, and his mother Rio, will also have a part to play.

The alien parasite or the ‘symbiote’ has reached New York. Harry Osborn, Peter’s best friend is back in town looking healthy and cured. In Spider-Man, we find out that Harry’s sick and Devil’s Breath was actually supposed to be an attempt at a cure. In a post credits sequence, we see Harry in a chamber, unconscious, and we see the symbiote as well.

Insomniac Games told attendees at the Summer Game Fest event that Eddie Broke is not Venom, contrary to comic books. The devs made it clear that they’re writing their own Spider-Man story. However, given the ominous proclamation of intent made by both Harry and Venom in the trailer—namely, to “heal the world”—scenes and trailers from earlier games strongly hinted that Harry would be Venom.

Enter Venom and other villains

It is also known that at some point; the symbiote manages to latch onto Parker, hence the symbiote suit. While all this is happening, Kraven the Hunter makes his way to New York, looking for a hunt. And it is known that he will be after Spider-Man and Lizard, and possibly other characters too. So it is upto Miles, his best pal Ganke, and MJ to help Parker free himself from the symbiote. And later, they have to fight Venom, whoever it is.

While Venom is pivotal to the story, there are a lot more villains. Grizzly, Mr. Negative (Martin Li), Wraith, Black Cat, Taskmaster and Mysterio will also make their appearances in the story. Well, the lineup doesn’t end here. Developers claim there are a lot more surprises in the villain league. However, to what extent would all these villain appearances influence the main narrative of the game is still under the sheets.

Some theories suggest that Mr. Negative wouldn’t be a full-fledged villain in the sequel. A plausible theory hints this might be an opportunity for Miles to confront Li, who, along with his Demons gang, was responsible for his father’s death.
