Back when the first Last of Us game came out, its multiplayer offered some variety in terms of gameplay, not that the story lacked in it. The Factions mode saw its fair share of fans. However, with the second game, most fans expressed disappointment when the mode did not make a comeback.

As a result, they began wondering if there were even any plans for the same. When Naughty Dog posted job recruitment descriptions in 2021, fans felt hopeful about the mode coming. Combined that with Neil Druckmann’s appearance at the Summer Games Fest 2022 and confirmation the game was coming, fans felt it had to show up at PlayStation Showcase 2023 right? With the event gone, there was still no sign of arrival.

That is when a few clever fans began piecing together bits of the puzzle. Sony recently announced due to an internal fiscal crisis, it had to push several first-party titles to a 2024 release date. It is reflected in their financial reports. Additionally, Naughty Dog posted job openings that point towards The Last of Us Factions being under development. If these instances are anything to go off on, the game could potentially come sometime late next year.

The arrival of The Last of Us Factions could also be added to the remaster for the second game. As fans may know, the remastered version has not come out yet. Naughty Dog could have been planning a combined release, with the internal crisis delaying it entirely.
