The recently concluded Ubisoft Forward event ended up confirming that XDefiant is more than being just another new FPS game. It has got a a massive potential. Well it seems like the project will end up delivering on its promises too. Especially in terms of competing with an existing king of first-person shooter genre – Call of Duty.

Activision’s iconic action franchise hasn’t been going through a good phase lately. Current offerings like Modern Warfare II and Warzone have failed to impress majority of the gamers. Interestingly, the present time is perfect for XDefiant to not only challenge Call of Duty but take its place as well. Yes, it won’t be a cake walk, but the makers are leaving no stone unturned in giving the fans a phenomenal experience by listening to them. It could be a huge factor in helping Ubisoft’s FPS title gain a record number of players.

In case anyone missed keeping track of events, XDefiant’s executive producer Mark Rubin mentioned during the Ubisoft Forward that over 1.5 million players have participated so far in the closed beta tests for this title. Plus, this figure is likely to get extended further with the first open beta phase; it’s starting from June 21. The open session will last till June 23.

Conducting the open session this month means that XDefiant will probably release after a month, possibly in late July. Simply put, it will have an edge over the next major Call of Duty premium from Activision.

Many renowned streamers and players are already calling it a COD killer. Now given the fact it will arrive nearly four months before 2023’s rumored Modern Warfare III, things are looking to go in favor of XDefiant.

The free-to-play game will have enough time to not only attract new players but retain them as well. That can happen in case it actually turns out to be the kind of first-person shooter alternative many disheartened COD lovers are trying to find. Ubisoft has been working constantly to get community feedback in order to make the overall gameplay better and smooth.

Then it will be on to Year 1 and a regular cadence of new content, including four new factions (each with its own unique characters and skills), 12 new weapons, and 12 new maps.”
