Spider-Man 2 is going to drop in less than a week now and excitement is rising in the community.  As the game comes closer, more and more details about the game are being revealed. Peter was the protagonist in Spider-Man and Miles in the Miles Morales game. However, this time, Spider-Man 2 will have two playable protagonists. Players will get to play as Peter, as well as Miles. And while fans are only a week away from getting their hands the game, turns out, there could be another playable character.

While it’s confirmed that players will get to see the story of both the Spidermen unfold, there is some surprise content that Insomniac has in store. It’s already known that Venom is instrumental in the story and possibly the main villain. But one thing that players don’t know is that beyond controlling both the web slingers, they might get to play as Venom too!

Venom might be playable in Spider-Man 2

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been building up the presence of Venom for some time. Anyone who played the first game knew Venom would be in Spider-Man 2, and in a big way. The symbiote was teased in an end credits sequence. Further, from teaser trailers and promotional materials, devs have built an insane amount of hype by revealing Venom’s look and showing Venom in action. The design of the character and the attention given to him  also suggest that the developers are planning something significant with this character.

Now, Venom will also be a playable character according to a reliable insider. This news was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by THE INDUSTRY BABY. The user is known for their many leaks regarding Spiderman. The user also had posted the announcement of the game being released on October 20 among other things he shared, and so far, has been right about almost everything.

As of now, the information is to be taken with a grain of salt. However, the prospect of playing as Venom has been floated across previously and cannot be ignored. So while it is known that as Spider-Man players will go up against Venom, it will be interesting to see what players will get to do as Venom. It is also important to remember that players did get to play as other characters in the previous two games in the series.

What can players expect from the Venom encounter?

In the previous games, players have gotten to play as other character, albeit in very limited capacity.

In Spider-Man, players got to do few missions as MJ. As MJ, players got to checkout Wilson Fisk’s art collection, navigate through Tombstone’s layer, and also explore Norman’s penthouse.

Players also got to play as Miles who had to make his way through sable agents using the hacking app. But before that, players had to help Miles reach find his father after Martin Li and the demons cause an explosion at the Osborn rally, killing Miles’ father.

Meanwhile, it’s not known if players will get to play as Venom in main story missions or post game. Fans will however, surely hope it’s nothing like the Mary Jane gameplay from the first game which was largely disappointing.

Another important thing to remember is that Venom isn’t just a villain. He’s a villain turned anti-hero. And the two character’s stories are closely related. So while Insomniac have written their own story for the Spider-Man games, it remains to be seen what they have in store for Venom.
