The highly anticipated sci-fi exploration title, Starfield, hasn’t stopped trending ever since its announcement. Unsurprisingly, the PC- and Xbox-exclusive title has been the subject of much speculation online. Fan theories dissect the possibilities of finding life on an alien planet and alternative narratives in gameplay. Recently, however, a new theory considering the game’s correctional possibilities is taking the community by storm.
Starfield’s promising open-world exploration setup has left the door open for endless lore. Though Starfield’s branding is generating nothing but hype, the prospect of navigating an infinite space has left fans with many loose ends. One fan has dreamed up the possibility of running into law enforcement in the game, leading to some interesting conclusions for the community.

With Starfield’s decision-based gameplay being one of its main selling points, fans are beginning to ponder what their worst in-game choices could be. Like any game, there’s going to be scope for mischief. But there’s been a lot of speculation about what would happen if the space authorities caught players breaking rules. Despite game director Todd Howard evading questions on this matter, a Reddit fan provides an interesting viewpoint at this juncture.
A Reddit user believes that breaking the law in this Bethesda game will land you in prison. A space prison! Sharing his theory he wrote, “Todd Howard never tells us what happens when system authorities find us with contraband or catches us doing something illegal. I think you end up getting sent to prison and will need to serve a sentence or break out your thoughts?”
This fan might be on to something. Starfield might be the first Sci-Fi RPG title to ever have a space prison. The fan theory immediately went viral on the platform. Fans were divided and left intrigued by the user’s speculation.
A fan supporting the theory wrote, “The Direct showed what looked to be the player character in a prison in one of the clips, and also Skyrim had a similar system, so it really wouldn’t surprise me if this was a feature in the game. Guess we shall have to wait and see.”
