Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 trailer announcement has made waves on the internet since it was revealed earlier this month. Obviously, most of the franchise’s lovers are curious about the upcoming footage and the game itself. But there are many doubts as well doing rounds in their minds when it comes to the ultimate release of the next Grand Theft Auto in relation to how it will be available on multiple platforms.

To be precise, it’s not yet clear whether GTA 6 will allow crossplay for consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X\S, and PC. But if history is anything to go by, a clear idea is already available, thanks to what Rockstar has been doing so far with the last major GTA installment. But can the situation change this time with the new entry, especially considering how popular crossplay has become in recent years?

Although there’s no official statement available from Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., and Rockstar on this matter, the most reasonable answer to this question is a simple no. GTA 6 is unlikely to receive crossplay at launch, at least going by how the studio has used its strategy with GTA V. Released in 2013, the game grew steadily by attracting more players thanks to it multiplayer experience in GTA Online. But the latter doesn’t feature the option of crossplay.

GTA Online doesn’t have crossplay despite being available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Yes, the users can enjoy it with their friends on the same family of hardware like PS4 and PS5 or Xbox Series X and Xbox One, but not with someone having a PC. They can’t join players from other platforms. Even with the next-gen update for GTA V, crossplay has remained absent so far.

Taking this fact into consideration, it seems like GTA 6 will also skip having crossplay upon its release. Yes, there are many games these days supporting this feature by default, but Rockstar has yet to introduce it in its iconic open-world series. Hence, one can’t really expect GTA 6 or GTA 6 Online to include such an option, at all.

However, despite this, GTA 6 is something that has been on the waiting list for a while now, with over a decade of gap between its predecessor.

When is Rockstar releasing the next Grand Theft Auto?

While the devs have revealed the launch window for the first-ever trailer of the next Grand Theft Auto, a date of its arrival is yet to come out. The exclusive footage is going to make its way in early December 2023. That’s pretty much everything we know so far.

As for the ultimate date of release, fans will have to wait for the trailer itself. It may get released towards the end of the trailer, but that’s just a speculation right now. Eventually, everything depends on the makers in terms of what they have planned for the game.

If the team at Rockstar is confident enough to release it early, it will probably drop the date in the reveal trailer. All things considered, however, it looks like players will have to wait longer. Considering the industry standard, do you think Rockstar will cave and finally include multiplayer in the upcoming GTA installment?
