The Electronic Entertainment Expo aka the E3 is currently in terrible danger. As many of the major publishers have opted to back out from the event, the possibility of cancelation is closer than ever. Big names such as Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox had already backed out from the stage and, as the final nail to the coffin, French developer, Ubisoft, has also announced their departure.

Even the industry icon, Sega, and Chinese behemoth Tencent have also revealed that they won’t be participating in the showcase this year. With so many departures, it is believed by the experts that the summer event will be struggling to stand up on its own two feet. Even the possibility of cancelation is not impossible.

According to the experts, this could be the end of E3. They say getting a spot in a lengthy live show such as E3 is very expensive. While it may help raise awareness for the new titles, E3 is also a big gamble. Being a live event, there have been many instances where some occurrences in the show disappointed the audience.

On Twitter, the owner of VGC, Andy Robinson, said, “It’s often tough to separate the facts from the conjecture on E3, but unsurprisingly I’m really not hearing good things. Would not be surprised at all if it’s called off this week – but I hope it isn’t. I feel so sorry for those behind it who did everything asked of them”.

Even the sources of IGN had also stated, “There’s no possible way this show can happen.” With the departure of the last straw, Ubisoft, this seems very likely. And seeing that there haven’t been any announcements regarding the E3 showcases, which usually roll out by now, things are looking up to be very bleak.

Why is everyone leaving?

One of the many reasons behind big publishers leaving E3 is the cost and effort it takes to host products in a live event, while a chance of disappointment also lingers in the corner. That is why publishers are opting for pre-recorded presentations like Nintendo Direct.
