Nintendo also turned a new page for its gaming consoles by introducing a console that was easy to develop and powerful enough to run some really graphically intense games. This led to Skyrim, Wolfenstein, and Doom and Doom Eternal making it to Switch.
And in 2020 along with Doom Eternal came Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch brought a record number of new players to the series
Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released in 2020 for Nintendo Switch. Before this latest installment, this series had a very limited fanbase. People who played Animal Crossing played Animal crossing because they had been playing Animal Crossing ever since the series started.
And there was always a shortage of new players coming to it. To them, there were games like Stardew Valley available, with a lot more in-depth gameplay mechanics. So Nintendo decided that the userbase that Nintendo Switch has created can be convinced to give the new Animal Crossing a go.
They looked around, took notes from survival games, modern farming sims, and finally Animal Crossing: New Horizons was born. The game launched to an astonishingly positive response, thanks to it being very different from its predecessors and enticing, and also thanks to the ongoing Covid-19 quarantine.
And so the game was undoubtedly successful. Nintendo was so supportive of the game that they still this day release little updates for it.
The success of this game has led Nintendo to include Animal Crossing among its prime franchises now. And we are so sure, that the moment we see a New Nintendo console, we would see a new Animal Crossing, within a year of this game’s launch.
