The Nintendo Switch online service is slowly becoming a haven for retro gamers. Those who have subscribed to the service’s lower tier, simply called Nintendo Switch Online, get to enjoy games from consoles like the NES, SNES, and Gameboy. Those who subscribe to the higher tier get the above-mentioned consoles, plus GBA and N64 too.

With every passing month, Nintendo keeps on adding new games to this library. But fans are always left wondering if Nintendo would even care to bring one of their most creative libraries to it.

Would Nintendo Switch Online ever get GameCube games?

Every console that has been added so far to the Nintendo Switch online has been somewhat undemanding. Consoles like the Nintendo Entertainment System, SNES, and Gameboy have been eight- or 16-bit consoles. Moving on to the heavier consoles, it stops at the N64. This means almost every console available to play on the Switch Online service has been pretty easy to run.

One does not really know what Nintendo is doing to emulate those games on the Nintendo Switch. But whatever they are doing must have some limits. Hence, the Nintendo 64 is where this stops for now. We think that even if Nintendo wanted to bring GameCube to the Switch, they would not be able to. Let’s not forget the initial performance issues N64 faced when it came to Switch Online.

This means that we would only be able to play GameCube games on the Nintendo Switch 2. Only if it’s powerful enough to handle GameCube emulation. After all, GameCube is not slack; it’s a very hard console to emulate. It’s almost as powerful as a PlayStation 2 and a Wii.

Our dream of playing games like Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Smash Bros. Melee would only be fulfilled when the Nintendo Switch got its long-awaited successor.

When will the successor be released, though?

While there’s no set launch date for a new Nintendo Switch as of yet, numerous leaks and rumors have stated that it might launch sometime next year. The console is said to be much more powerful than the current model. It is also being said that this upcoming console will even support ray tracing as well as technologies such as DLSS.

If all this turns out to be true, then it would have no trouble running any Gamecube games natively. Are you waiting for Gameube to show up on Switch online, or are you just happy with what you have? We would love to know your opinion on this matter; please leave a comment.
