Following the result of the FTC v. Microsoft case, one thing is very clear now. The Xbox maker is likely to end up acquiring Activision. The latter is the publisher of Call of Duty – the biggest FPS franchise in the world right now. Given the massive popularity of this IP and the significance it holds, one can expect a lot of transitions it might go through once the deal is officially closed.

So far, the two companies involved in the $75 billion deal haven’t provided a word on what changes CoD games will witness under a new roof. However, certain speculations and theories have already begun to surface online.

While Activision has got many successful IPs under its belt, the presence of CoD undoubtedly outshines the rest of them. It’s because of its appeal to millions of gamers who are passionate about this series. For almost two decades, they have witnessed a new premium, annual release. Now considering the period comprising of the last few years, it can be said that Sony’s line-up of PlayStation consoles has enjoyed an edge over other rival platforms in terms of delivering exclusive CoD content to the players.

But now, this situation will change with the acquisition of the Call of Duty publisher by Microsoft. And when that happens, Xbox will make sure CoD titles get the same content on all the platforms, no matter what. Additionally, there’s another major change one can expect in the future installments of this IP arriving on consoles other than Microsoft’s.

People on social media are currently wondering about what will happen to Call of Duty on PlayStation after Activision’s merger with Microsoft. Especially, when it comes to the way CoD games boot up on Sony’s devices. While it’s still not confirmed, the upcoming, new entries might end up receiving a refreshed intro on rival consoles like the PS5. In simple words, fans might see an Xbox logo popping up while booting up the games on PS platforms in the future. Why?

According to some theories, Microsoft might do that to make gamers associate CoD brand with Xbox. However, it may or may not happen, while considering that Activision might run independent from Xbox Game Studios.

One can take a look at the recently released HiFi Rush. Despite being an Xbox exclusive, it didn’t have a splash screen showing Xbox Game Studios. It’s because Bethesda runs independently from other devs owned by Microsoft. Same could be the case with Call of Duty titles from Activision going forward. However, one still can’t rule out the other possible scenarios. It will be interesting to see what transpires in the end after the deal is closed.
