With the news of Microsoft taking over Activision Blizzard, there was intense tension among fans on whether Call of Duty will no longer be available on PlayStation for gamers. This speculation came to news on the court hearing of a case between Microsoft and the Federal Trade Commission of the United States. The case was proposed to confirm the future of Activision Blizzard after Microsoft?s takeover worth $69 billion.?
Considering the famous battle between Sony and Microsoft to share the majority of the market in the gaming industry, fans speculated that pulling out Call of Duty from PlayStation might be a new opportunity for Microsoft since COD is one of the most popular games in the market. Breaking all the anticipation, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft confirmed that they intend to provide future versions of Call of Duty on PlayStation 5. He also confirmed that he would fully support this making sure that the team takes every possible method to continue shipping COD on PlayStation 5. “My commitment is, and my testimony is, that we will continue to ship future versions of Call of Duty on Sony?s PlayStation 5.”
Spencer’s comment also focuses on the fact that pulling out Call of Duty from PlayStation might give a lot of market damage to the company since the players of Call of Duty are more vocal and present on platforms speaking about their demands. His statement referred to the market damage Xbox could face if Microsoft decides to stop shipping future versions of Call of Duty on PlayStation- “Us pulling Call of Duty from PlayStation in my view would create irreparable harm for the Xbox brand.”

Lulu Cheng Meservey, The CCO and Corporate Affairs of Activision Blizzard tweeted in March confirming that although Microsoft offered a ten-year-old agreement for guaranteeing PlayStation’s long-term access to Call of Duty, Sony reportedly failed to sign the deal. Microsoft used this for supporting its intention of making next-generation consoles within 2028.?
