In recent global news, one of the most tragic incidents was none other than the disappearance of OceanGate’s Titanic expedition submersible, which resulted in the sad end of five adventurers under the terrifying depths of the deep ocean. But before the flames of this tragic incident could die down, a group of modders in the GTA community thought it would be funny to capitalize on the tragedy.

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto, aka GTA, is one of the most popular PC game franchises in the world. The series is known for its inclusive nature, mainly due to its modding community. But there are times when the avid fans of these groups go a little further than they should, and they end up invoking controversies and severe criticism. 

GTA modders make in-game OceanGate submersible

The Titan submersible vessel, designed by OceanGate, plunged into the depths of despair, claiming the lives of five. This devastating incident unfolded shortly after the submersible’s grand launch on a fateful Sunday, as confirmed by the United States Coast Guard on a sorrowful Thursday. The OceanGate Expeditions vessel disappeared without a trace, vanishing into the unforgiving embrace of the deep ocean, approximately 435 miles (700 kilometers) off the captivating coast of Newfoundland, Canada, on that haunting Sunday night.

Right after the worldwide spread of this news, many people took to various mediums to express their sorrow and pray for the lives of the victims. However, there was a group who failed to understand the severity of the incident and took the incident as a topic for petty jokes and memes.

Among these groups are a group of modders for GTA V who decided to create an in-game model of the Submersible and make a mode for it to be in the game. Soon this news spread around the internet as users all over the world shared their distaste towards the mod.

“Why would anyone do this? So twisted,” said and user on Twitter, while another one added, “So disgusting. We need to be better as a species for real.” A Twitter user even said that “making mods about a terrible event is disgusting and the creators should feel ashamed.”
