Nintendo educates its users on how to properly use its brand name

The history of Nintendo begins in 1889, founded to produce handmade playing cards. Interestingly, not many Nintendo fans might not know about a 90s poster when the company tried to enlighten its users on how to use the brand name. Naturally, several users thought the company is arrogantly educating its users about their rights.

However, Nintendo had an important reason to release that poster which maximum users are still unaware of. During the rise of Nintendo’s popularity in the industry, a maximum number of people started referring to every company’s product as Nintendo. Although some users might feel like it’s a free advertisement for the company, its impact could have been more brutal.

According to the U.S. TRADEMARK ACT OF 1946, SEC 15 (4), “no incontestable right shall be acquired in a mark or trade name which is the common descriptive name of any article or substance, patented or otherwise .”

With the constant use of the company’s trademark, it could have lost its brand name ‘Nintendo’ under the U.S. TRADEMARK ACT OF 1946, SEC 15. Therefore, the company decided to spread awareness among its users so that it doesn’t lose its trademark in the future.
