Nintendo Switch recently became the third best-selling console of all time. It defeated Sony’s PlayStation 4 to reach that spot and that has really put things into perspective. The console is selling well enough for Nintendo to order the manufacture of even more consoles than ever.
But there is also news that Sony PlayStation 5 is leaving behind Nintendo Switch in sales. Albeit slowly and only in Japan, it’s still happening. But some say it is not as surprising as it seems.

Nintendo Switch launched back in 2017, and it was an instant success. This success was credited to its excellent and enticing software and the freedom it offered players. This freedom was basically the most advertised feature of this console.
Eventually, Nintendo Switch gained a huge install base. And this is evident by the fact that games like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet instantly sold millions of units. But it appears Nintendo Switch’s popularity has run its course. The console is slowly losing steam, not because it’s got no games, but because it has become saturated as everyone who wanted a Switch probably got one.
There are plenty of games on this console. There are plenty coming to this console. And the biggest of them, “Tears of the Kingdom” is yet to come.
People are now waiting for new hardware; they are already wondering what Nintendo has in store for them. And they have lost interest in buying those special editions of Nintendo Switch OLEDs.
And maybe that’s why PlayStation 5 is taking over Nintendo Switch in sales. Due to the lack of PlayStation 5 consoles in stores, many fans never got a chance to grab one. And now that this console is finally easily available, fans are choosing it over Nintendo Switch.
