The concerns were validated as the rumors became true. When the Smash Tour by VGBootCamp was heading to its finals, Nintendo sent what could simply be seen as a cease and desist against the tournament, which will shut the whole project down. According to the VGBC team, this notice came out of the blue.
The Smash World Tour team shared that Nintendo sent this notice the night before Thanksgiving last week. Nintendo was simply saying to the VGBC team that they can no longer continue the tournament. This was completely shocking for the staff involved with the project, as this statement doesn’t match the prior conversations they had with the gaming company.
What did VGBootCamp say about the Nintendo Notice?
The individuals involved with the Smash World Tour were shocked by the whole ordeal. There were plans in motion for the finals and even future tournaments. But this out-of-the-blue notice broke all their dreams. According to the BTS team, the gaming company was at first on their side and supported the project, but this sudden turn from their end was simply unfathomable.
“Without any warning, we received notice the night before Thanksgiving from Nintendo that we could no longer operate,” said the SWT team. “This was especially shocking given our discourse with Nintendo [over] the past twelve months. Since then, we have been working around the clock to take the proper steps logistically, as well as to prepare this statement with proper legal guidance.”
Fans and influencers express their discontent
The internet was ablaze after the announcement of the cancelation. Fans poured in to express their distaste regarding the whole ordeal. Even big names in the online content creation circle joined the fray.
YouTuber Ludwig directly expressed his shock to the co-founder of Panda Global, @DrAlanB. On his second channel, the Mogul Mail, Ludwig made a full-fledged video covering the whole drama and expressing this perspective on the cancelation of the tournament. SypherPK charged the aggressively charged Nintendo by saying, “Why are the people running Nintendo such a**holes.”

This is unbelievably sad.
Really hope @NintendoAmerica change their stance on this, I was soooo excited to see international talent competing together.— Asa (@asabfb) November 30, 2022
Everyone blaming Nintendo, it sounds like Panda is moreso to blame for this. Panda very clearly did not want this to continue and most likely gave Nintendo an ultimatum.
