Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been out for a few days now. And most of the players have already wrapped up its Campaign mode. However, it’s not the end. Activision will continue the rebooted franchise. Now that it hasn’t ended with the latest game itself, one can expect Modern Warfare 4 to be the next big premium offering. Also, it will likely bring back an array of familiar faces – including an ultimate villain. But who could it be?

Following the conclusion of Modern Warfare 3’s Campaign, the answer to this burning question is not too difficult. The latest title features tons of moments hinting towards the antagonist Task Force 141 will have marked up on its hit list. There’s a major reason for that as well. Things are about to get dark and revengeful, to say the least.

Here’s the main antagonist Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will likely focus on

Well, it has to be none other than Vladimir Makarov himself. His return in Modern Warfare 3 wasn’t actually extended because the devs didn’t really want to make him a ‘one game character’. Makarov’s presence needs to be fleshed out in a longer appearance. After all, he’s one of the best COD villains in franchise history!

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, we see him crossing paths with Task Force 141, again, in the end during ‘Countdown’ mission. While defusing a bomb planted by Makarov, one of the crucial characters from the team, John “Soap” MacTavish gets killed. He gets shot in the head by Makarov and dies instantly.

The villain had promised to see him again during a flashback sequence where he was captured by Captain Price and Soap. Soap was almost about to kill Makarov, but Price urged him not to do so. That was definitely a big mistake.

After Soap’s death, Price becomes emotionally charged as he goes on to kill Shepherd during a mid-credits scene. One can clearly make out that the leader of Task Force 141 is on a revenge path now. So who could be next on his list? It’s got to be Makarov simply because he’s the one who killed Soap in Modern Warfare 3.

Hence, Modern Warfare 4 may have a plot focusing on Price’s revenge. Maybe the entire Campaign will focus on Price chasing down Makarov to kill him. Interestingly, though, the fourth main installment in the rebooted sub-series could also bring back other antagonists who might join hands with Vladimir. One such name is Valeria Garza. She wasn’t there in MW3 but now that we know that the game wasn’t a finale, the El Sin Nombre will likely return in the future.
