God of War: Ragnarok was one of the biggest successes of 2022; the game became the fastest-selling PlayStation first-party title by quickly selling close to 5 million copies.

Besides breaking several sales records, the game also finally finished Kratos’s Norse saga which started with God of War 2018. In 2018, when Sony Santa Monica released a brand-new take on Sony’s popular God of War franchise, no one expected that game to be so groundbreaking. Yes, it borrowed a bunch of mechanics from a number of other games. Its combat was straight from Souls’ games, and its loot system was very reminiscent of Diablo games.

One thing that really stood out was their treatment of the subject matter. Kratos somehow made his way to the world of Norse gods, and he now had a kid. A kid who is much more than Kratos knew at that point, eventually the revelations are made, and the game ends on a shocking cliffhanger.

The sequel, Ragnarok, was a larger, more interactive, and more beautiful conclusion to 2018’s masterpiece. It was a bit overlong, and writers made some unusual choices when it came to writing dialogue for it. Yet, the game was still good and ended the story started in 2018 well enough.

Now the rumors of Santa Monica working on a story DLC for this game have started dropping in. This is a confusing thing, given that there’s hardly anything left for Kratos to do in that world. He made amends with his son, and his son has gone on his own adventures too.

This makes one wonder: if a DLC is in fact in the works, what is their plan? The only thing we can think of is that maybe they are going to show fans where Atreus would go, and we would follow his adventures. This is the only sensible direction to go in.

Kratos, on the other hand, does not deserve these small DLCs; he deserves a brand-new adventure to embark on. Let’s hope Sony Santa Monica understands this and does not put Kratos in a weird small story that does not serve any purpose in the context of the series as a whole.
