Assassin’s Creed is considered Ubisoft‘s crown jewel. The series has always been critically acclaimed, along with raking in millions of sales with each title. Now the fans are waiting dearly for the next entry, Assassin’s Creed Mirage. But looks like there would be some delay in the next title of the series.

Meanwhile, experts at Gameology’s YouTube channel sat down to judge one element of the series that has always been its selling point, the parkour stunts. Sara Mudallal and Omar Zaki, the parkour experts, judged scenes from all 12 games and ranked them accordingly in S, A, B, C, and D tiers.

First reacting to the 2007 Assassin’s Creed, the experts had nothing but praise for this title. They said this game was a benchmark in itself, introducing elements of parkour way back then. They ranked this title in the A-tier. The next title, Assassin’s Creed II, also got praise from them. They felt Ubisoft refined the physics more and made the character more dynamic. But they felt it lacked the realism from the first part and placed it in B-tier.

The experts had some issues with Assassin’s Creed II: Brotherhood. They felt the game had improper collisions with objects and movement was too complicated. Because of these drawbacks, it found a spot in the B-tier. The next entry on the list, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, got praise for its graphics from the experts. But it still had comparable movements to its earlier entry, landing it in the same tier as that of Brotherhood.

Assassin’s Creed III changes the tides for the series. The experts were heavily impressed by its realistic movements stating, “Everything feels really crisp.” It was the second entry after the first game to gain an A-tier spot. Just like many titles, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was another title that received praise. The motion capture of this game was the main plus point for them. The title also landed on A-tier.

The last six titles of the series received mixed reviews from experts

The movements of AC: Rogue felt a bit whacky and restricted to them. As a result, they came back down to give it a B-tier. AC: Unity also got criticized by them for its flat jumps. But the overall movements were smoother than Rogue, earning this an A-tier.

The 2015 Syndicate was again a letdown for them. The game used unrealistic physics and got a B-tier from them. But Origins, released two years after Syndicate, won their hearts immediately. The movements were fluid with no clipping with surfaces. This game instantly won the experts’ hearts and earned Assassin’s Creed their first S-tier entry.

However, just when it was thought to be a turnaround, the 2018 AC: Odyssey left them in a state of shock. They could not fathom how a 2018 game is worse than earlier installments. “What guy, in whatever time period [you] would call this, is doing Superman flips from the roof,” exclaimed the experts, rejecting the game.

While the previous installment landed in the best tier, it turned upside down with Odyssey as they gave this game the worst rating by putting it in the D-tier. We would have expected the series to end on a high, but the recently released Valhalla failed to fulfill that. They felt the movements felt bulky and slow. Although it did better than Odyssey, it only managed a C-tier, behind all the OGs.
