Mortal Kombat 1 is fast approaching its anticipated release and fans are already getting impatient. Thanks to amazing marketing tactics by the creators, the hype for this fighting game is simply unmatched. And with a recent re-introduction of a beloved character, it has further escalated to an astronomical level.

In case anyone missed it, the upcoming title recently received a new trailer. Confirming all the speculations, it officially revealed the character of Nitara for MK 1. She is finally returning, but with a major twist. Hollywood actress Megan Fox will voice the character, while also providing her likeness to the blood-thirsty vampire. However, that’s not everything the latest trailer offers to the fans. A wild movie easter egg has also made its presence felt – in the most fitting way possible. If you know, you know.

For those who haven’t followed Megan Fox’s filmography, she did a movie called Jennifer’s Body more than a decade ago. It was released in theaters in the year 2009, featuring the actress in the role of Jennifer Check, a high school student. The story sees her becoming a vampire who feeds on her classmates in order to survive. Amanda Seyfried played the character of Jennifer’s best friend Anita, who tries to stop the unending bloodbath.

Now in Mortal Kombat 1, there’s a particular sequence where Kung Lao literally asks Nitara “What did you do with Jen’s body?” It is a direct easter egg connecting to Jennifer’s Body in which Megan Fox played the titular role. In fact, at the start of the trailer, the actress indirectly reveals that playing Nitara as a vampire “resonates for whatever reason”.

Speaking of Nitara herself, she is coming back after almost 17 years. The vampire from Vaeternus was last seen in 2006’s Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

While previous rumors for MK1 suggested that Megan Fox would show up as Jennifer, it’s good to see her collaborate with the game through a fan-favorite character instead. After Transformers and Diablo 4, Mortal Kombat 1 is her third major IP in terms of making gaming appearances, the other two being Transformers games.

NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1 comes out on September 19. It will be available on the PS5, Xbox Series X\S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
