The early access of Starfield has subjected the fans to an all-new realm of possibilities the open world offers. Ever since its mega announcement was made at the Xbox Showcase 2023, the Sci-Fi giant was expected to be a game changer for Microsoft. Unarguably the early sale numbers convincingly comply with the scale of anticipation among the community. While plenty of innovations and attributes make it a standout title for 2023, the liberty of open-world side quests remains the highlight feature.
Although Starfield has a gripping main story narrative, the side quests are a compelling element of the gameplay. Moreover, the developers provide a great space for decision-induced narrative. As constantly advertised by Bethesda, even the slightest of missions and quests would have alternative endings based on the choices creators make. Of course, sometimes this also puts the players in a dilemma. Well, not to worry as we have your dilemma for ‘First Contact Side Quest’ figured out.

A threatening and inattentive ship will be stationary and in orbit around the planet Porrima 2 as Starfield players approach the Porrima solar system. Players can find Porrima 2, the planet famous for its fantastic vacation destination of Paradiso, in the Porrima system, a few solar systems to the right of Alpha Centauri, with the mission ‘First Contact’.
From this point on, they will get a distress call from Jiro Sugiyama, the planet’s chief of security, asking them to travel to the planet’s surface to assist him in solving the mystery that’s terrifying the locals.
The First Contact mission is probably the most intriguing challenge in the early hours of Starfield. Players have to begin the mission by investigating the mysterious ship and taking matters into their own hands.
What do you find on the ship?
Of course, with all the mystery built around the stranded ship, you would expect the first extraterrestrial contact in Starfield. But upon investigating the ship, you’ll find our own species struggling for civilization. The mystery is further unveiled around the ship. Basically, the ship called the ECS Constant was associated with a 200-year-old mission space voyage in search of a habitable planet for human civilization. Evidently, the mission met an unfortunate end, leaving a lot of people struggling for survival on the Constant.

The main task of Starfield’s First Contact mission
Now, as the mystery has unfolded in Starfield, players have a very important role to play in the future of all the lives involved. Captain Diana Breckenridge, the chief of ECS Constant, is now relying on your skills for the lives on board. The lady explains that due to a lack of technology, her team won’t be able to communicate with the new inhabitants. Thus, it is now your responsibility to negotiate with the officials back at Porrima 2.
All you have to do is head back to the planet base, reach out to the board members through the security, and figure out a resolution for the Constant. Easy? Wait as there’s a twist of dilemma involved.
What’s the ideal choice for the resolution of the ECS constant in Starfield?
Once you’re back in Porrima, you’ll have to take the matters of security. To fix a board meeting with the high officials, reach out to the security officer at the Paradiso resort, who had made the distress call at first. After you’re done explaining the issue to the officer, you’ll be allowed to access the office of the resort’s board of directors.
This is where the real game begins. As the meeting goes forward, the committee comes up with three possible solutions for the resolution of the ECS Constant. The three choices given to you are:
- Use of force to eliminate the ship as a threat and future conflicts
- Convince the board members to let the survivors start life at the Porrima 2, but in return, the survivors would have to work as slaves.
- The expensive approach is to buy the stranded fleet a Grav Drive, which gives them a chance to settle somewhere on the other side of the universe.
Make a choice, there are lives at stake! Spoiler Alert. There’s a perfect resolution for the issue. Hold on to a guess before you move further.
1. The Worst Choice
If you’re planning on using force to end the civilization on board ECS Constant in Starfield, your crew members might not be pleased. This particular decision will involve the players to destroy the ship with a blast. The blast would be created by overloading the ship with power. When you decide to activate the evil inside you, all the generations seeking life die. Even if you don’t have a problem with this outcome, your crew members might not keep this decision in their good books affecting your trust factor with your crew further in the gameplay.
2. A fair choice

The staff in Starfield, when convinced to take the refugees in, would have its own perks and downsides. For starters, the homeless civilians will have something to call home. Although their lives would be traded in for the settlement. The survivors will have to serve the officials for basic chores technically as a slave. Moreover, they would be looted of all their resources and possessions. Still being a better ending than dying in a blast, your crew members would have double thoughts on the decision taken. Also, for this diplomatic deal to work, you’ll have to do a lot of outsourcing to ensure a smooth settlement.
3. The Perfect Choice: Make them explore the world of Starfield
As you might have already guessed, there’s a correct and most beneficial answer to the dilemma. Yes, the most experienced choice of all. If players want to purchase the ESG Constant a Grav Drive in Starfield, they will have to fork over a hefty 40,000 Credits. Alternatively, players can bargain this 40,000 Credits down to 25,000 Credits by using the Persuade skill. Picking this option would put a lot of things into place. Firstly, the survivors will have the power of choice to choose their homes. No compromises would be made on the Porrima 2 planet. And your crew members would remember you as a hero.
