Xbox’s buying spree is definitely not over yet. Just like Sony Interactive Entertainment, Xbox is also trying to expand its family with multiple suitable acquisitions. Microsoft has purchased over a dozen companies in the past few years, which is certainly impressive.

According to Phil Spencer (executive vice-president), the company is all set to bring a wide range of titles under its banner from Obsidian Entertainment to ZeniMax/Bethesda, spending billions.

Spencer was recently at the Wall Street Journal Tech Live conference, and he spoke about a lot of things including acquiring studios. As reported by Tom Warren, he said, “We are definitely not done. There is a quota, no timeline where I have to go acquire studios by a certain time, but if we find a studio, where we have a good fit…absolutely.”

Who could Xbox acquire next?

Phil Spencer didn’t give any hints as to what kind of studios they are mainly looking for or if something is going on right now. But he did express a willingness that the company wants to buy another Japanese company. Well, Microsoft has a lot of studios and after the big Bethasta deal, it is quite clear that budget is not an issue here.

If Microsoft sees an advantage that comes with acquiring a studio, they don’t mind spending some extra cash to get the studio under its banner.

Xbox has struggled a lot in the Japanese market against PlayStation and Nintendo. However, right now, the Xbox Series X and S are performing quite well there, mainly because of the launch of Game Pass. If Xbox owns another Japanese studio, then their chances of reaching out to a wider audience will increase, as well as the likelihood of working on new and unique projects.

With this in mind, maybe Capcom is next in line to fall under the Xbox banner.

Capcom will be a perfect choice, what with all the iconic characters Capcom has produced over the years and the success and popularity of the Resident Evil franchise. Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, and Street Fighter are some of the beloved franchises from Capcom and under the Microsoft banner, the company could reach new heights.

However, there are other brilliant picks out there for Xbox as well. And the community will have to wait and see which studio Xbox acquires next.
