After the initial announcement, the show received terrible and unnecessary criticism from long-time fans and admirers of the series. Many had their doubts regarding the cast and faithfulness of the adaptation to the source material. In spite of constant assurance from the co-producer of the show and the director of the original game, Neil Druckmann, the fans chose to grill the adaptation on social media.
But as soon as the first episode aired, the common belief soon shifted. The authentic portrayal of the characters, faithful themes, and astonishing performance from the cast soon gave the adaptation the approval of the critics as well as the conservative fans. And with each episode, the level only increased.
Where the third episode of the show was deemed the best in the series, episode 5 took that spotlight soon after its broadcast. The reception of the episode was almost unbelievably positive as more than 90% of the overall reviews were praising the masterful writing of the characters and the narrative.

The latest episode had the most game-accurate scene so far. This episode told the story of Sam and Henry. Two brothers, who are just like Joel and Ellie, are dependent on each other and are doing their best to survive in the harsh, merciless world. But all their efforts were fruitless, as following the narrative of the game, Sam gets bitten and turns. While having no other way, Henry kills Sam and then shoots himself, for he couldn’t live with the guilt of killing his brother.
Currently, the episode has a score of 9.7/10 on IMDB, with more than 80% of the overall reviews being a perfect 10/10. Only 1% of the total reviewers gave it a 1/10 review. Episode 5 is the highest-rated episode of the series so far.
