Twitter may get more than it bargained for with its new policies on preventing system manipulation. Twitter owner Elon Musk recently revealed new restrictions on the platform as preventive measures against data scraping and system manipulation. However, the limitations didn’t go down too well with the users, with many criticizing the account-oriented drive by Musk.
Among the critics, Epic Games CEO and Fortnite creator Tim Sweeney also voiced his views on how the internet is increasingly becoming “broken“. Sweeney took jabs indirectly at Musk, hours after the latter made public the new restrictions on Twitter.

Musk hit Internet negatively, Sweeney suggests
The internet is no stranger to being misused. While user privacy is given priority by all websites, theft of private info is a recurring issue for many. Using data from social media to drive user sentiments and buying patterns is fairly common, even though serious breaches of privacy may be highlighted on most occasions. To prevent such misuse of data, Twitter Ceo Elon Musk announced new limitations for Twitter users. According to the new policy, users may have access to as low as only 300 posts a day.

The limitations have infuriated many users who complain that the cyber world is getting increasingly restrictive. The wider dissatisfaction is epitomized by a tweet from Fortnite creator Tim Sweeney. Sweeney said that cyberspace is increasingly becoming boring with more and more websites taking steps to restrict free access to information. His post also made Musk respond, who claimed to be open to suggestions on how to manage the issue.
Possible solutions are at hand
Sweeney posted, “News sites are paywalled or account walled, Reddit is nag walled, Google search spams ads and SEO to the point of uselessness“. The Epic Games CEO further said that web browsing “feels horrible” nowadays, especially with Twitter becoming account walled. However, his allegations saw Musk coming out with more claims of Twitter being the target of data scraping attacks.

Musk responded to Sweeney saying that the aggressive data scrapping of third-party organizations is hampering real user experiences on Twitter. As Musk asked for suggestions on tackling the problem, Sweeney said that he believes litigation against large-scale commercial abuse may help the problem to saturate.

Sweeney went on to suggest that if these third parties would share their revenues generated through gatekeeping or ads with creators, journalism is likely to get a tremendous boost.
Several hundred organizations (maybe more) were scraping Twitter data extremely aggressively, to the point where it was affecting the real user experience.
What should we do to stop that? I’m open to ideas.
