Xbox streaming console was too costly to make, according to Phil Spencer
As reported by VGC, Mr. Spencer recently appeared on The Verge’s Decoder Podcast. In the session, he revealed a lot of things about the Keystone console, intended to stream games. The Xbox chief told that there were several units made by the company. Not only that, some of the employees even took them home for testing purposes.

Phil Spencer mentioned that although the Xbox Keystone streaming console worked well, it became too costly to produce. “The console we built that now people have seen, Keystone, was more expensive than we wanted it to be when we actually built it out with the hardware that we had inside,” he said.

Furthermore, he also mentioned that he wanted this console to be priced around “$129, $99, like somewhere in there for that to make sense in my view, that we just weren’t there.” Because he didn’t want to roll out an expensive product for the gamers.

For him, the “customer proposition includes the price, and I think all of us knew that we were a little out of position on price.” Well this reason makes quite a lot of sense why the product has been deprioritized now at Microsoft. However, it’s still in development and those who are excited about it might witness some news in the coming months. But currently, the focus has been shifted from the Keystone project.
