Last year, in December, PewDiePie shared a piece of shattering news. His beloved pug, Maya, had passed away. With a heartfelt post on Instagram, PewDiePie notified the world that the sweetest and most innocent pug ever to live, Maya had passed away aged 17.

“17 years is a long time for a pug, but no time in the world would’ve ever been enough..” said pewd’s in the Instagram post. PewDiePie, in the past, had revealed that Maya had been suffering from some conditions. One of her most severe illnesses was dementia. The aging dog had been living a very tough life.

Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, aka PewDiePie, has been on YouTube for more than 10 years. In his long career, he has been through astronomical highs and catastrophic lows. But for the last few years, his presence on the platform has dimmed a bit. The former most subscribed YouTuber had declared that he is basically ‘retired’.
Even after his self-appointed ‘retirement’, Felix hadn’t left the platform of YouTube. He kept on uploading videos, but his content had changed drastically. From screaming profanities while playing video games to reacting to memes, reviewing books, and uploading occasional vlogs and updates.
Last Year, Felix was able to fulfill one of his lifelong dreams, moving to Japan. After the restrictions of the Pandemic were relaxed, Felix and Marzia Moved to the ‘land of the rising sun’. After his resettlement to this unfamiliar country, Pewd’s YouTube content changed again. This time he focused on documenting his life with aesthetic ‘J-vlogs’.

In a recent vlog, PewDiePie shared his day after the passing of Maya. “It’s been tough. I miss her so much.” Felix mourned the next day after the fateful event. “We got her when, as long as I have been with Marzi. We got her soo early when I was in Sweden. I didn’t have money back then. I was at the start of my YouTube and scrambled together everything we had and she cost just as much as we had. It was almost fated.”
The Swedish YouTuber continued with watery eyes and a sunken voice, “We did everything we could to make her as good as we could, but it wasn’t enough. We sacrificed so much just to take care of her, but looking back, I don’t regret any of it. I’m so glad we did it. Because she deserved it…”
