In the world of online competitive FPS, the Call of Duty is one of the biggest and most influential franchises. Serving a huge fanbase for decades, COD is highly respected in the gaming space, as well as criticized. Recently, one of the latest installments in the series, Warzone 2, introduced Ranked Play to keep things fresh, but the outcome wasn’t what the devs had anticipated.
We have seen many big FPS games implementing Ranked Play recently. Other than Call of Duty Warzone, Apex Legends, and Fortnite have also offered ranking systems in online games. Riot’s Valorant has taken things a step further by offering its players a spot in the pro scene through their ranked play.

Devs at Activision have been presenting new innovations to keep the game relevant for the new generation of gamers. In their struggle to keep the players satisfied with the content, a new Ranked Play was introduced. This mode lets the players compete to rise the ranks to reach the top.
To get an idea of what the players think of this game mode, a Twitter fan page called ModernWarzone posted a public poll, asking whether the new mode was a “W” or an “L”. While many creators and fans showed a positive approach toward the mode, unfortunately, the results of the poll weren’t positive at all.
More than 37,000 people voted in the poll. Among them, only 43% opted for the positive option, while the rest said it was an “L”. In the comment section, players shared their views, describing why the new mode was a miss. Many bashed the mode, saying it’s just the same old Warzone with “fancy” badges.
It’s not a W until more changes that are needed are made. It’s a nice step, though.

Warzone 2’s overall experience is undoubtedly improved due to the inclusion of Ranked.
However…
The one thing thats been highlighted as a huge problem is just how much influence and power top Warzone creators have over decisions made to Call Of Duty.
Giving feedback is one…

Without movement or gameplay changes it still is just a “ranked” mode slapped on a game that doesn’t require skill.
It’s a W I’m a sense it gives you a reason to play, but that’s it.

L ONLY because as being a current silver I'm dying to top 250 players constantly. And this isn't day 1 although it did happen then too. No SBMM it feels like they just throw me in 250 lobbies

“Ima be honest, it’s just Warzone with fancy badges now. Everyone is just overhyping it. Give it a month,” said a user named Dysit on Twitter. Another user blamed the base game for being lacking, “The servers are still broken, footsteps are still broken, dev errors are as prominent as ever. The ranked can be as good as it wants, but if the base game still sucks and isn’t fun, it’s not a W.”
