Warzone 2 to come with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

In a tweet on February 11, Tom announced Activision claims Warzone 2 will arrive with the Infinity Ward developed title, Modern Warfare 2. However, fans are yet to see if that implies Warzone 2 and MW2 could hit store shelves together or if the battle royale title will see its launch following MW 2.

Even Tom remains unclear on the matter as Activision did not specify if their statement implied day one or not.

But that’s not all. Tom also revealed that the upcoming Warzone is not simply a re-skin of the older title with better graphics. Activision is building the title “from the ground up” to mitigate the issues that plagued its predecessor.

According to Henderson’s ‘developer friends’, these bugs in the original stemmed from the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War integration. Although exactly how these came about or the specifics on them remain unclear.

Bad news?

However, the most controversial decision is yet to come. For there is a slim chance that Warzone 2 could skip previous-gen consoles altogether. One of Henderson’s tweets states that Activision dodged the question about whether Warzone 2 would be available on both current and next-gen consoles. Furthermore, Henderson has previously stated that two different versions of Warzone could launch for both console generations with no cross-play (as reported by Charlie Intel).

If the battle royale title skipped a console generation, it would hit PS4 and Xbox One players the worst. They’d miss out on the multiplayer fun they love unless they got their hands on a next-gen console. And given the chip shortage, that’s already a tall order.

Although, having the power of next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has its benefits. This would allow the developers to ensure stable frame rates and features, like a 120 FOV option.
