Baldur’s Gate 3 might just be the biggest success of 2023. First, this game just launched with a massively positive response from the gaming community. Then it topples this year’s previous winner, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as the top-rated game on Metacritic.

Even its developers are surprised at how much of a success this title turned out to be. Seeing a video game making all this buzz, it only makes sense for gamers to wonder if there’s something similar on the Nintendo Switch.

To answer that question, we have listed below Nintendo Switch games that are similar to Baldur’s Gate 3 in one aspect or another.

Divinity: Original Sin 2: Definitive Edition

Why does this game deserve to be at the top of this list? Well, it is made by the same developer that worked on Baldur’s Gate 3.

It even has pretty much the same DNA as that game, but it somewhat lacks visual fidelity, which should not be a big concern if you are playing on a Switch.

Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition

Yet another game that shares its DNA with Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2. This computer role-playing game has been painstakingly ported to the Nintendo Switch by Oblivion, and it proves to be worth the price people pay for it.

It covers every aspect of a role-playing game that Baldur’s Gate 3 does, and then it gives players a very mysterious story to go through.

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut

This game is something of an anomaly; it is an excellent RPG that stars a modern detective. It’s such an RPG that it even lets its players pretty much shape their character the way they want and take them in any direction they wish to.

Imagine making your character so stubborn that at one point he even stops listening to you because you are asking him to do something he is not doing. A game that can be completed with conversations and without ever getting into any sort of combat scenario.

The reason it’s an anomaly is that this game is as deep an RPG as any other game on this list, but it is much deeper than them and misses out on combat.

Shin Megami Tensei V

The infamously dark series that the Persona series of RPG games sprouted from. This latest game in the series takes its players through a post-apocalyptic Tokyo as they try to find the reason for its destruction.

Enemies in this game are various demons that you can either fight or have a nice conversation with. A conversation that can even lead them to become an ally of yours. more action-heavy, but not lacking in weirdness at all.

Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 is a game that is basically a very funky action JRPG that knows how to keep its players on their toes. What makes it similar to Baldur’s Gate 3 is its social simulation aspect. Players are free to converse with their party members, do activities with them, and even approach them romantically.

Now, this game does not have a bear that gamers can romance; hence, they have to make do with just humans.

Wasteland 2 Director’s Cut

It’s a surprise that people tend to forget the game that is pretty close to Baldur’s Gate 3 in almost every aspect. The game is full of player choices; it allows players to fight or flee, and it even gives them the option to not fight at all.

An equally massive game but set in a post-apocalyptic environment. Those who are able to break the wall of learning in this game will be in for hours and hours of awesome RPG fun.

Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2

Yes indeed, the prequels to the subject of this article are also on Nintendo Switch. Of course, they would be similar to BG3 in many ways, and they would be different in several ways. But one thing is for sure: they would offer their players hours and hours of insane rpg fun if that’s exactly what they are seeking.
