The beauty of Call of Duty Warzone 2 is that it constantly keeps changing. The developers keep bringing new content and mixing things up. After the season five update for Warzone rolled around in early August, fans found a change in the meta. Since knowing which gun is currently the strongest adds to how you play, here is a guide to the best SMGs in Warzone 2, after the season five update.

ISO 45 takes the title of the best Call of Duty SMG

This SMG takes the top spot, with an unparalleled time to kill. The time to kill is perhaps one of the most important factors when it comes to close duels. It can mean the difference between a win and another loss. Additionally, the ISO 45 has more range than any other SMG in the game. The gun is essentially the complete package.

With these powerful abilities, it also features good mobility stats, which make rushing enemies a breeze. It is surprising the gun did not receive a nerf with the update. For the attachments, pair the cheetah stock with the drum magazine to get those extra bullets. Depending on your preference for the sights, you can sub in the muzzle attachment if you go for the iron sights.

The Lachmann

Fans of the first-ever Modern Warfare game might remember this as the MP5. Although the gun received a nerf after the season five update, it still remains a worthy SMG to have in your load-out. The nerf was the only thing that placed it in a close second behind the ISO 45, as it had a similar time to kill.

For the attachments, adding a drum magazine is practically a no-brainer, especially since you will go through bullets rapidly. The overpressured ammunition is a nice additional touch, disorienting enemies to increase target flinch. You can choose the rest of the attachments based on how you feel comfortable using the weapon.

Vel 46

Similar to the Lachmann, most fans might remember the Vel 46 as the MP7. The gun was an absolute demon back in MW3 and shredded through enemies. It should be no surprise it is part of the meta in Warzone. Over the past few seasons, the gun was a strong contender for the SMG slot on the loadout, but with the recent buff, it became much more of a popular choice.

The gun works its charm in mid-range fights and allows you to close the gap pretty quickly with the high mobility stats. Add the RXT stock along with a grip and you have a virtual laser beam, just mowing through enemies as you move around quickly. Add the 50-round magazine so that you do not run out of bullets. While the 60-round is a viable choice, it might be overkill and dampens other stats.

Vaznev 9K

While the Vaznev is a great SMG for your loadout, there is a big drawback. The gun only excels at short-range combat. Once you take engagements beyond a certain point, you notice a big damage drop-off for the gun. The thing to understand is that where it shines, in short-range engagements, it becomes one of the best SMGs in the game, so choose your battles accordingly. Alternatively, you can pair it with a rifle for longer-range duels.

Use the True-Tac grip alongside Otrezat stock. It makes for better ADS speed and greater mobility. One thing that can neutralize the damage fall-off over range to an extent is the KAS-1254 mm barrel. While not the perfect solution, it does balance the SMG a bit.

MX9

The MX9 is an insanely good weapon. It nearly has it all: good mobility, fast fire rate, and a fast time to kill, but then what puts it at the final position in the meta? The major flaw with this is the magazine size. Even with an attachment, the maximum number of rounds you can carry in a magazine is 32. This becomes a massive issue, especially since you blow through bullets in a matter of moments with SMGs. It is still a viable choice, but needs to be used smartly to get the most utility out of it.

As for the attachments, in addition to your choice of stock and grip, it might be a good decision to use Cronen Mini Pro. The gun’s iron sights might be a bit of a hindrance since they are different from other SMGs in the game. The 16.5″ Brunen S901 barrel is an option. It brings a boost to the range and improves mobility.
