There is no doubt Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most successful launches of this year. With a record score of 96 on Metacritic, players are enjoying their experience with the game. One of the most popular features in the game is its character creation. This is where many players spend hours on crafting the perfect character to take into the game. While this feature is used to create characters, many players are more interested in making characters from other universes.

During the launch of the game, even PlayStation shared some characters they made using the creation mode. The team at PlayStation showcased the remake of a few popular characters on their X page (formerly Twitter), and this started a trend among fans.

A Shrek fan started a thread on X, where they posted remakes of famous characters from the series. In the thread, the fan recreated characters like Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, and Puss in Boots, to name a few. Although the characters weren’t a 1:1 representation of the ones from the movies, the person’s work got a lot of attention.

In the thread, the fan couldn’t perfectly recreate some characters as there were limitations to the creator mode. However, what they did with it surprised fans all over. Donkey, the famous character played by Eddie Murphy, wasn’t created as an animal in the game but as a human. The identifying characteristic of the make is the goofy smile that Donkey has throughout the movies. While human characters like Robin Hood and Prince Charming came pretty close to the original characters, even Shrek himself looks different due to limitations of the game.

While the character customization in Baldur’s Gate is pretty good and players can get away with recreating quite a few characters, there are still some limitations that these artists have explored. Although the recreations aren’t perfect, they resonated with the community. As this trend continues, players can expect to see many other remakes of movies and video game characters.
