Starfield is on its way to becoming the crown jewel of Xbox consoles. The game has been a smash hit since its release. The game is still running strong even after over a month. This stellar success is all thanks to the vast open world Bethesda has created. While the game has plenty to explore and is supposed to be a visual spectacle, it has its limitations. It especially concerns fans who are looking for the best graphics.
The game promises fans an epic adventure with over 1000 planets. While this allows players to explore space and its many worlds, it sometimes may mean a higher load on GPUs. If you are considering upgrading your GPU to play Starfield on PC, a shocking bit of information awaits you.
An increase in GPU price does not equate to an increase in performance

A smoother performance is something every gamer wishes for. While Starfield is a wonderful RPG, it has some limitations too. The console version is designed to max at 30fps. But the PC version will go as high as your system can take it. Due to this, many gamers are considering upgrading their GPUs to increase FPS. However, a recent comparison between GPUs by NikTek presented some shocking insights.
a 200$ GPU in 2015 with the most recent game would get you 70FPS average at Max Settings
a 1000$ GPU in 2023 gets you 70FPS at medium settings in 2023
Who is at fault here, GPU makers or devs being too lazy to optimize? pic.twitter.com/js4Ra8zgSO

The comparison shows GPUs are not getting better with price. A $200 GTX 960 card ran Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain at 70 FPS in 2015. Surprisingly, a $1200 RTX 3080 Ti also caps out at 70 FPS while running Starfield. However, it should be noted these comparisons are made between the max settings of GTX 960 to the medium settings of RTX 3080 Ti.

While the comparisons may look unfair, NikTek states the GPU companies claim a “3x jump in performance compared to their older GPUs.” The comparison maker further said, “Every comparison should be done at native resolution and shouldn’t have tricks be used on their benchmarks.”
With the user sharing these stats, fans have come forward to pen their thoughts regarding the shared insights.
Fans planning to buy GPU for Starfield were left in shock over this discovery
With this discovery coming to light, many fans shared their shock over it. A fan blamed both GPU makers and game developers for this.
Both are to blame
Gpu makers aren't making that big of a jumps in performance no more from generation to another
But game devs are to blame more since they don't optimise their games whatsoever— Shuichi ムーン (@Shuichi0_0) October 26, 2023
Another fan also blamed the devs for not optimizing and GPU makers for not delivering high performance.
I think there are multiple problems, in terms of the performance uplift between generations, definitely we are seeing a pattern in which each generation offers less increase in performance. And also on the other side, devs have been lazy AF by releasing unoptimized games.

On the other hand, a fan showed an impartial outlook and stated inflation to be the reason.
No its just because of 400% inflation. 🤣

However, some gamers have also objected to the unfair comparison drawn by NikTek.
I see various problems here:
First you are using a CPU limited test to make the GTX 960 look better than what it was.
The GTX 980Ti was more than 200% the performance of a GTX 960 with 3 times the Vram (not much different than 4060 VS 4090)https://t.co/qE04TfqfjP pic.twitter.com/orlEQTMKQd— LupintheIII (@LupintheI) October 26, 2023

Amidst this heavy debate, a fan pointed out that the game is still giving higher FPS on PC than on consoles.
Meanwhile Xbox Series S can run this game at 1440p 30 fps
