Mat Piscatella, a gaming analyst, has made some intriguing deductions about video game consoles. The gaming analyst explained why the Xbox Series S worked better than the Series X for Microsoft. Moreover, he also explained why the PS5 Physical edition was a bigger hit than digital.
While there is no certain format to what works as a console in the community, there’s a long checklist that has to be ticked. However, even with scoring some decent ticks from the list, specific editions fail to perform to the expected numbers. On the contrary, some editions just excel in business numbers, surpassing their projected expectations. Ever wondered about the secret behind it? Well, Piscatella has a very simple justification for the same.
Xbox Series S and PS5 Physical Edition’s success do not reflect ‘consumer choices’?

According to the data in a leak, Xbox Series S makes up 74.8% of all owners, while Series X owners make up 25.1%. The consumer information was discovered in a report outlining Xbox’s April 2022 performance. It’s not clear whether these figures come from monthly, quarterly, or annual statistics. However, the information may be one factor for Microsoft to reportedly consider removing the disc drive from its Xbox Series X upgrade scheduled for release in 2019.
This came out as a potential representation of the gamers’ choices. However, gaming analyst and former employee at Activision and Warner Bros. Games had a completely different takeaway from the statistics. The latter tweeted, “At the time, Series S was being made available to consumers in higher quantities than X. People didn’t really have a choice at the time as Series X was severely supply constrained. Now just over half of LTD sales are S.”

Adding on, he drew a parallel of these numbers with that of the PS5 Physical edition vs. the digital edition. “Same thing for PS5… disc version was far more readily available than the digital edition. The splits for both Series and PS5 don’t reflect consumer choice or preference so much as production,” he concluded.
