The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a very successful title. So successful that people are finding it exceedingly hard to stop talking about it: discussing its gameplay mechanics and its world. Sometimes they talk about how well this game treats its characters; on other occasions, they talk about the abilities it offers.

One of the most noticeable debates that fans often have about it is about its story. Some say it’s one of the best stories ever told in the Zelda franchise, while others consider it to be significantly worse than its predecessor.

Is the story of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom worse than that of Breath of the Wild?

When The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launched in 2017, it was universally lauded for its gameplay mechanics. All people were talking about was how well that game handled player freedom. How well its gameplay mechanics worked. But no one ever talked about the tale it told. There was a reason for that. The game never had much of a story to start with.

Link wakes up from a 100-year slumber and simply goes about finding ways to defeat Calamity Ganon. That was all it had—a very basic story that was just there.

Years later, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was about to launch for Nintendo Switch, and the developer launched a trailer for it. That trailer was simply titled Trailer 3 and gave fans a look at what the game had in store for them in terms of story. That trailer really hyped up the fans of this series.

When the game launched, it was as good as the trailer. A game full of exciting moments, some really mind-blowing story moments. It even gave its characters much-needed depth. Some even say this game gave Zelda one of the best story arcs they’ve ever seen.

But others disagree; they seem to prefer the more simplistic nature of the predecessor.

The Legend of Zelda fans are divided on this game’s story, though!

Fans are finding it pretty hard to find a middle ground when it comes to this game’s story. Some love its story; others think the first part told it better. They have taken to Reddit to discuss this matter, and many have made some really interesting points regarding it too.

A user TheAwesomeLord1 thinks Breath of the Wild focused more on Link and Tears of the Kingdom tells a wider tale, hence it does not feel as good.
