Death Stranding, the surreal open-world action-adventure game by Kojima Productions has the nod for an official silver-screen adaptation. The main brain behind the game Hideo Kojima has confirmed his extensive involvement in the live adaptation through social media platforms. However, fans have expressed their disappointment after learning that the legendary video game maker will be in charge of almost all aspects of the upcoming movie, except for one crucial responsibility.
Kojima’s revelations seem to fail to excite fans as much as they should have, given the expansive game could use more of his guidance.

After breaking away from Konami in 2015, Hideo Kojima established his own studio focused on delivering captivating stories to video game players. In 2019 Kojima Productions launched Death Stranding with an innovative story-designing that gripped fans’ attention almost immediately. Since its release, the game has sold over 10 million copies worldwide, across all gaming platforms.
With goals of making Death Stranding a full-fledged franchise, Kojima also announced plans for an upcoming sequel to the game. A movie fanatic at heart, it wasn’t long before Kojima responded to his fans and hinted that a live adaptation may be in the works. Since the announcement, the community has extensively discussed who could possibly act as the guiding hand and help the movie achieve greatness. Despite many names to ponder over, Kojima was unanimously accepted to be the likeliest choice to ensure the Death Stranding movie offers a profound experience.
Fans react to Kojima’s reluctant confirmations
In a recent Twitter post, Hideo Kojima confirmed his extensive involvement in the Death Stranding movie production. “Just to be clear, I am deeply involved in producing, supervising, plotting, look, design and content of the film adaptation of DS“, Kojima wrote in his post. However, he also pointed out that despite all the creative guidance, there is one critical aspect over which Kojima does not have authority. The director of the movie is going to be someone else, and this has the fans asking for answers.
Just to be clear, I am deeply involved in producing, supervising, plotting, look, design and content of the film adaptation of DS, just not in charge of directing.

While many fans were evidently excited by the news, others felt a sense of sadness that Kojima won’t have the last say on which path the movie will be moving towards. Some called it “Unfortunate“.

Other fans simply wanted to know why would Kojima agree to such a decision, Death Stranding being his brain-child in years.

Here’s another fan who is curious why would Kojima think directing a movie based on his own ideas isn’t a good idea
Why not? You directed the game and most of it was movie scenes anyway
